LUKE WORTHINGTON
CASE STUDY

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF?
Master Nike Trainer Luke Worthington was due to appear on a TV show and wanted to have an ebook ready for download on his website in time for the release of the show. The brief was to design something ‘cool, edgy but accessible’. It need to work in a phone format as it would be used almost 100% of the time on the users phone. And it must be laid out in a matter which was easy for the user to understand and complete the tasks.
HOW DID YOU APPROACH THE INITIAL RESEARCH & EXPLORATIVE STAGES?
As the book was going to almost mimic an app in the way it looked I started out by researching the most popular fitness apps to see how they broke down exercises to a way that was easy to digest for the user. Being into fitness myself, I was also a good barometer for understanding the market and gauging usability.
WHAT SOLUTIONS WERE PRESENTED?
Luke had a very dated logo when I received the brief, I felt we needed to modernise it to allow it to sit within the new ebook we were creating. I provided him with a simple sans serif lock up which is modern and can happily work alongside all the new assets I was creating for him.
We tested out several cover images until Luke was happy with the outcome and the layout of the rest of the ebook seemed to go off without any hitches. I was able to give the divider/section pages a very modern feel with bright colours and then keep the instructional pages simple and clean so as not to get in the way of the users understanding of them. This meant the ebook could fit in with Luke’s brief of it being 'cool, edgy but accessible’.
WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME?
A modern looking user friendly consumer ebook, finished on time and ready for the launch date. I also created a set of social media posts for Luke to help promote his ebook to his thousands of followers on Instagram.
“Nick took on the design for my first consumer ebook. He quickly understood the style and feel that I wanted. He created something that was visually appealing as well as being functional. Nick responded to all questions quickly and in full and the project was finished on time and in budget. I would absolutely use Nick’s services again for any design project”.
